World Literature Today
Patrick Chamoiseau
In conversation with Jérôme David
Patrick Chamoiseau, recipient of the Prix Goncourt in 1993, has explored the contradictions and challenges of modern globalisation for over thirty years. His body of work traces the turbulent but settling ties between the American, African and European continents. Two centuries after Goethe, the ideal of “world literature” takes on new shapes: Fort-de-France is not Weimar. And yet, part of this radical humanism persists.
