• CopyistsAt least four distinct hands are present in the codex. Hand A (folios 3-9) copied Susanna and Daniel in a well executed example of the so-called “severe style” (Turner’s “formal mixed” classification). Hand B (folio 10 recto) inscribed five miscellaneous lines in a labored hand using a light ink. Hand C (folio 10 recto) copied a series of moral exhortations in an inexpert and labored hand that seems to be an attempt at the “Biblical Majuscule” style. Hand D (folios 11-12) copied the Thucydides in a competent, flowing chancery hand.

  Dimensions: The width of the page is 15.5 cm. The height of page: 18.0 cm. The ratio of the page (width/height) is 0.861. The width and height of written area varies. For Hand A, the width is 10.0 cm, and the heigh is 11.0-12.5 cm. Hand A has 20-24 lines per page. For Hand D, the width of the written area is 10.5 cm, and the height of the written area is 11.8 cm. Hand D shows 16-17 lines per page.
  Quires: 2 quires, each apparently composed of three bifolia. Horizontal fibers (→) precede vertical fibers (↓) on the first folio of each quire, and like faces like to yield the following pattern: →↓↓→→↓ (center of quire) ↓→→↓↓→.
  Cover: No cover is preserved.
  
• Binding
  Binding: The binding structures of the codex have not survived. Folio 10, which contains the acrostic moral exhortations, appears to have a short, knotted length of papyrus fibers attached to the upper left margin (folio 10 recto). Carlini argued that the quires were probably not bound (“I due fascicoli Bodmeriani probabilmente non sono mai entrati a far parte di un codice vero e proprio,” “P.Bodmer XLVII,” 159). Yet, the extant bifolia show evidence of holes for binding threads, which would suggest that the quires were at one stage properly bound.

• General NotesParatextual features: The extant texts do not have the customary titles. The text of Susanna ends at the bottom of a page (folio 5 verso) and is followed by a high dot and the words (ⲟⲣⲁⲥⲓⲥ ⲃ) “Vision 2,” in parentheses as a part of the text block. The extant pages are not numbered. The acrostic moral exhortations display a short horizontal line below every fourth line of text. There is an alpha placed in the upper lefthand corner of the page containing the beginning of Susanna (folio 1 recto) and a beta placed in the upper lefthand corner of the page containing Daniel 1:10-1:16 (folio 7 recto). The placement on the page would suggest a quire signature, but the position of the leaves (in each instance the third folio in a quire composed of six folios) is curious.

• AbstractPapyrus codex containing Susanna (P.Bodmer 45); Daniel 1 (P.Bodmer 46); moral exhortations (P.Bodmer 47); and Thucydides, book 6 (P.Bomder 27).
  Description: The remains of this codex consist of two papyrus quires. The first contained six folios, of which the first two are now missing. The second quire consists of six folios. The first five extant leaves (folios 3-7) contain the book of Susanna in Greek (in the version of Theodotion). The next two leaves (folios 8-9) contain the Greek text of Daniel 1:1-1:20 in the same version. The recto of folio 10 contains some brief lines copied in a rough hand followed by moral exhortations in a different but equally labored hand arranged in an acrostic pattern. The verso folio 10 is blank, and the sixth book of Thucydides commences on the recto of folio 11 and continues through the verso of folio 12, the last leaf of the second quire. The relationship of these diverse contents is made all the more puzzling by the stark differences in the four hands that have inscribed these leaves. In the ed. pr. of Susanna and Daniel, Carlini and Citi imply this codex was among those purchased by Bodmer from Tano in 1956.
