  Dimensions: The width of the page is 24.4 cm. The height of the page is 27.0 cm. The ratio of the page (width/height) is 0.904. The writing is in a single column. The width of the written area ranges between 17.5 and 19.5 cm. The height of the written area is about 18.0 cm. There are 28 lines per page. There are 25 folia from this codex at the Foundation Martin Bodmer.
  Quires: The complete quires at the Fondation Martin Bodmer are arranged with horizontal fibers out and like-facing-like within the quires producing the pattern →↓↓→→↓↓→→↓, etc. The entire codex consisted of at least 22 quires. The Bodmer portion of the codex consists of the whole of quires 1, 3, and 4 as well as parts of quire 22.

• Binding
  Binding: While the remains Tura Codex V at the Fondation Martin Bodmer consist only of papyrus leaves, portions of the codex held elsewhere preserve parts of the binding structures. It seems that each quire had a strip of parchment reinforcing the outer edge of the folded quire (partially visible, for instance, in the image of the first leaf of quire 8 held at BYU). Some of these strips were cut from inscribed parchment leaves and reused; see further Wayment, “P.Köln (Pap. Theol. 53-60). Similar strips lined the centers of the quires. There appear to be four sewing stations in each of the quires. Binding threads are occasionally preserved, and their positioning is not inconsistent with a link-stitch sewing at two independent pairs of sewing stations.

  Paratextual features: Quire signatures appear in the upper left margins of the first pages of quires. Numbering appears in the left margins, as does the forked paragraphos. Different combinations of dots (seemingly in an ink different from that of the text) are found in both margins. Single slash / and double slash // mark off the lemmata from the commentary.

• AbstractPortion of a papyrus codex containing the Commentary on the Psalms by Didymus the Blind.
  Description: P.Bodmer 57 consists of twenty-five leaves of a codex containing a commentary on the Psalms by Didymus the Blind (Codex V of the Tura papyri). Parts of the codex are dispersed in several collections. The full codex would have had at least 171 leaves. The codex is a record of the lectures of Didymus on Psalms 22-40. The Bodmer portion of the codex consists of the whole of quires 1, 3, and 4 as well as parts of quire 22. Tura Codex V is a palimpsest. The under-text, a document which was washed off, is oriented at 90 degrees to the upper text (the commentary of Didymus) and is on occasion easily visible to the naked eye, as on the upper right hand corner of the verso of leaf 3 in quire 8 (at BYU). The Bodmer leaves of Didymus are said to have been acquired by Odile Bongard in Cairo in November 1953 from the Groppi collection (Méla, Légendes des siècles, 34). P.Bodmer 57 is a portion of Tura Codex V, one of a group of papyrus codices that was found in abandoned quarries in Tura, Egypt during World War II. It was perhaps once in the Monastery of Arsenius near Tura (Koenen and Müller-Wiener, “Zu den Papyri”).
